8th Grade at Bonnabel:
The Connections Program is a one-year program, tailored for the over age middle school student who is (2) or more grades levels behind. Students who have been retained twice between 3rd to 7th grades are considered for admission to the program each May.
The purpose of the program is to provide targeted instruction and accelerated remediation, aimed at helping the student move successfully into high school and attain a high school diploma. Different from most remediation programs at the middle school, students have the opportunity to earn high school credits while working on 8th grade advancement. This provides students a head start in earning the credits needed for the Louisiana High School Diploma.
The goal for all students is to develop skills needed for success after high school so the program is housed on the high school campus. Students will be invited to specific special events with the high school and visit career/industrial classes to encourage this transition.
Students attend classes in a designated building, just for the Connections Program. Class sizes are kept to 20 or less students to provide more direct instruction. Students will have the opportunity to participate in course related and behavior incentive field trips. Parents receive frequent updates on their student’s progress. Bus transportation is provided by Jefferson Parish Public Schools.
