YOUTH RESTAURANT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS

                                                                            2024-2025

Purpose: High school career education and apprenticeship programs combine skills-focused, work-based, and on-the-job learning with relevant technical education in the classroom. Students who participate in career education and apprenticeship programs graduate with a high school diploma and industry-based credentials.

Program structure: Students can begin the Career Education/Apprenticeship programs as early as their Sophomore year. Once students complete the two-year fast forward program (apprenticeship) or EMT program, and successfully graduate, they can earn two years of apprenticeship credit toward high need jobs and credit towards furthering their education at a trade school, 2-year college, or 4-year college.

Strength of Diploma: Students who successfully complete the EMT or two-year apprenticeship programs while at Bonnabel High School will earn 50 points towards their high school diploma.

EMT Program: Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics respond to emergencies, perform basic medical procedures, and transport patients to medical facilities for further care. They may work in an ambulance, with the fire and police departments, or as part of rescue teams. (Required Prerequisite – Emergency Medical Responder).

Ochsner Pre-Nursing Apprenticeship: Through the Ochsner Pre-Apprenticeship Program, you will have multiple interactions with medical professionals both virtually and in person. The Program is open to Sophomore students who have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Completion of the Ochsner program will allow for students to begin the process of earning an LPN or RN degree from Delgado Community College. Upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply for the Ochsner Apprenticeship, which involves monetary compensation for tuition and part-time employment at full-time pay.

Youth Restaurant Apprenticeship: This program prepares individuals for employment in a variety of food service occupations. Cooks, chefs, and restaurant managers can look forward to jobs in bakeries, restaurants, hotels, and schools.

Pipefitters Apprenticeship: Most students begin the Pipefitters Apprenticeship program as Juniors.  Once  the students complete the two-year fast forward program and successfully graduate, they have earned two years of apprenticeship credit toward the New Orleans Pipe Trades five year registered apprenticeship program.  During the third year, all students will be guaranteed an interview, and  students that are employed, will enter the program as a 3rd year - 1st semester apprentice.  Full-time Employment entails a Forty hour employment with benefits.

Automotive: Our program will provide you with hands-on training and the knowledge necessary to become a skilled automotive technician. You will learn about the latest technology, techniques, and tools used in the industry, and be able to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles. Upon completion, you will be eligible to take the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certification exam to earn the ASE certification, demonstrating your proficiency and knowledge in the field. With an ASE certification, you will be well-prepared for a fulfilling career as an automotive technician. This is a dual-enrollment class through Delgado Community College.
