Make Up Seat Time (MUST)

To pass a course, students have to be present in class and earn a grade of D or higher. It is important to attend each of your classes!

One way students are at risk of failing a class is if they have 8 or more unexcused days in a full credit course and 4 or more unexcused days in a half credit course. If students do not complete MUST they will receive a F*.

Students and families need to make sure that they are regularly monitoring their attendance by using student progress center so that they can check in with the attendance office when an issue first arises. It is important to turn in your excuses for missed days in a timely manner. Doctor's notes will excuse missed days. A parent note is helpful for truancy but will not excuse a day from being counted towards the unexcused total.

MUST allows students to "make up" missed time in class. There are virtual and in-person options. Bonnabel's policy this year is that students are allowed to make up to 7 total days virtually before they are required to make up all other days in-person at a Saturday session.

MUST for the fall semester has to be completed during the fall semester. The deadline for the fall semester is the last day before winter break. MUST for the spring semester has to be completed during the spring semester. The deadline for the spring semester is the last day of school.

You CANNOT make up time for a previous semester in the current semester. For example, if you missed 10 days during the fall semester you would NOT be able to do seat time in January to make-up those missed days and remove a F* from your report card/transcript.

Not sure if you are still eligible to complete MUST for a class? Ask yourself if you are still actively in that class (going to that class everyday)? Yes? Then you can complete MUST for that class. No? Then you can NOT complete MUST.

Attendance!

  • Use the Student Progress Center to check your own attendance!!
  • Use the button below to go to the Student Progress Center.
    • Your username is your student ID number and your password is your full birthday in the following format: MMDDYYYY
  • You need to look at your attendance in each class. To do that, click on "Grades" then on an individual class.
  • In this new window, you should see each of the assignments in your course that has been added to grade book. You can also see your attendance for that specific class.
  • Is the attendance 8+ days? Then you NEED to complete MUST or you will fail the course.

  • Is the attendance 15+ days? Then you need to start coming to Saturday Sessions.

  • Do the math to figure out how much time you need to complete!

    • Virtual MUST: 1 class period = 22.5 minutes of online work
      • Divide the total amount of minutes needed by 60 to get the total hours
      • Total amount of minutes to complete virtually = # of days x 22.5 minutes
    • In-person MUST: 1 class period = 90 minutes (or 1.5 hours)
      • Total amount of hours to complete in-person = # of days x 1.5 hours
      • Divide the total amount of hours needed in-person by 4 to get the total amount of Saturday Sessions you need to attend
  • If you think there may be an error in your attendance, then review your daily attendance by going to the main attendance page by clicking the word "Attendance" at the top. If you see what you believe is an error then you need to go directly to the attendance in the AA building. Speak with an attendance clerk about your issue to learn more/get it resolved.

What is the counselor's role in MUST?

  • Your grade level counselor ensures that you remain on track for graduation

  • Missed days can result in a F* which can impede your graduation progress and  possibly result in you not graduating in four years

  • Counselors provide information on MUST and send out JCalls to students/families to alert them of the risk of failing

  • Counselors review completed MUST at the end of the semester so that they can mark make-up days appropriately

Grade level counselors are NOT attendance clerks. IF you believe there is an issue with your attendance, you have an excuse, or have a question regarding attendance please go directly to the AA building to speak with an attendance clerk. As a reminder, excuses can be submitted online using the button below:
